Hasselt: Thales Alenia Space targeted by activists for complicity in genocide

In Hasselt, Thales Alenia Space, a Thales subsidiary, was targeted by activists. The company collaborates with Elbit, Israel's largest arms manufacturer. Doors were blocked and walls covered in red paint due to "its ongoing complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people."

Last night, a group of activists targeted Thales Alenia Space due to the company's collaboration with OIP. The target company's parent company, Thales, also collaborates with Elbit Systems. The activists sabotaged the entrance gates with the intention of hindering the operation of Thales Alenia Space for as long as possible.

"Why this action? A company so deeply involved in the Israeli war machine will not listen to you, even if you ask politely. We were forced to stop the work of Thales Alenia Space."

Several elements are cited by the activists justifying their action targeting Thales Alenia Space. First, the company is collaborating with OIP on the CLIM (Cloud Imager) project. OIP is a Belgian subsidiary of Elbit, Israel's largest arms manufacturer. Activists demand an end to the collaboration between Thales Alenia Space and OIP. “Working with OIP amounts to supporting Elbit, and therefore the genocide of Palestinians.”

In addition, Thales Alenia Space is a subsidiary of the French Thales group. The group sold pilot assistance systems for armed drones worth 2 million euros to the Israeli arms industry. The equipment provided is presented as “non-lethal”, but it allows Israeli drones to fly. A Disclose investigation revealed that these drones were deployed alongside Israeli army special forces and infantry.

Through UAV Tactical Systems Ltd, Thales and Elbit manufactured drones for the Israeli army, notably the Watchkeeper drone, based on the model of Elbit's Hermes 450. Thales uses technologies tested and developed to kill Palestinians to resell them to third countries with the help of Elbit.

This action is part of a broader campaign by Stop Arming Israel Belgium, which has launched a call for decentralized actions against Elbit Systems in Belgium. The aim of these actions is the exit of Elbit from Belgium and the establishment of a total embargo on Israel from Belgium, demanding an end to the complicity of the Belgian government. “You can't make peace with weapons.”
